Sago from the Tyendinaga Reserve

Convinced Trish to drive me to the Reserve to visit the ex and her family.  We left on Friday morning and rented a room in Napanee.  Came back late Saturday afternoon.

Teresa had told me her mother wasn’t doing very well.  She’s 81 years old now and has led a hard, physical life raising so many children.  Ada is working through several health matters.  She uses a scooter and has a hard time getting around.  We caught up on so many things and then headed over for the barbecue.

Birdie & Amzy hosted the get-together.  It was so nice to see Teresa’s sisters & brothers and their families.  I saw KB & Brenda, Edna & Chris, Charlene & Shawn, Gabrielle & Dan, Dan & Gooch and Randy.  Unfortunately Connie was not there (visiting relatives down East) neither was Dave & Cheryl (back in Waterdown).

And talk about kids!  Grandchildren, great-grandchildren-I guess there isn’t much to do on the Reserve!  I tried remembering all their names which wasn’t very easy; they all have Native names.  The only one I could remember belonged to this cute little guy.  And the only reason I could remember his name was that it sounded like "rye and toast"!

They have a great setup regarding where everyone lives.  Amzy got a huge piece of land and they all built homes there.  Kind of a "Doreen Drive"!  After the barbecue it was time for the bonfire.  Teresa got a huge one going and everyone gathered around.  A couple of the kids pulled out their guitars and provided entertainment.  Brought back a lot of memories from the fires Birdie & Amzy used to have in their backyard when they lived in Greensville.

It was so nice to see everyone again.  They all seem to be doing well and are certainly happy with life.  The only unpleasant part of the trip was "Lead Foot Trish" and her driving.  Even that wasn’t really bad, she is a good driver.  Trish just likes to go fast!  And Teresa, I’m apologizing now for that picture.  Brenda made me do it!

  1. i’d say you are a backseat driver but with this van you are up at the dashboard next to me. how unfortunate. please, next van you get make sure you are closer to the rear of the vehicle so i can ignore you easier when i am trying to drive and also so you can’t see the speedometer. tony actually gave me a MSA(maximum speed allowance) of 130km/hr. the only raeson i drive so fast with tony is , have you ever tried being in a confined space with a habs fan?? 2. Trish - Next time - and I hope there IS a next time (would love to see YOU again) turn off the air conditioning but carry a squirt bottle of cold water. Whenever he opens his mouth - squirt him! That’s about the only thing that worked in the OLD OLD van! An even better idea would be for you to come here WITHOUT Tony!!!!!

Tony - You got so many things wrong in your comments on the pictures, I gotta E-mail you! (Charlene is my sister who used to be Louise but changed her name and Marie is only 16, not 19 and Dan is married to GUDGIE … etc.)!!! Next time, don’t be so cheap and pick up some extra camera batteries!!!!!
Leadfoot (whom you call anyone driving over 40 km) in Mohawk is Yakoshi’takste and YOUR Mohawk name is: Atenni’ta - and I dare you to tell everyone what it means!

  3. Trish, was only trying to protect you. Wouldn’t want a repeat of the Flamborough Downs incident, would we. And Tree, yes, a few little discrepencies-how could I forget my little ‘’Angel'’ was your sister. And Marie is only 16-I feel suddenly so much younger.

Thanks for sharing Trish’s Mohawk name. Regarding mine; people will not be surprized to learn it means ‘’Good Looking Big Daddy'’. And by the way, next trip I’ll be bringing nuclear powered rechargeable batteries.
