Comfortably Numb

Took in a Pink Floyd cover band the other evening.  Went with Brother Joseph and his Lady Kathryn.  It was originally scheduled for the Hamilton Convention Center but the number of tickets sold must have been low-on the night of the event it was moved to the Studio Theater at Hamilton Place.

All in all a good show.  Unlike the last Pink Floyd cover band I went to see, there was not very much "artistic fluctuation" in the songs.  One problem however: no saxophone player.  Pink Floyd aficionados are well aware of the significance the saxophone plays in many Pink Floyd songs.  Instead, a synthetically created instrument was used.  Not quite right.

Over the years I have seen many Pink Floyd cover bands.  By far, the best was the one I went to see a couple of years ago in Niagara Falls.  So good, I went to see them twice.  They had everything-female singers, all the sound effects & a fantastic saxophone player.  Hopefully they’ll be around again soon!

Feastolla X-A Smashing Success!

Brother Joseph’s annual Feastolla took place not very long ago.  Went up with Paulo and a couple of delicious steaks.  Good food, great music and some very nice people.  Feastolla has been going on for 10 years and I’ve been at every one.  The first one was in Mom & Dad’s backyard.  What a mob for that one!

Have a great time Brother Joseph-thanks a bunch!

Buddy Guy: Great Guitarist

Brother Joseph & I were supposed to go see blues guitarist Buddy Guy who was playing at Hamilton Place last Friday.  After we bought the tickets, Joe realized he was already committed to something else with the lovely Lady Kathryn.  No problem; a quick telephone call to my friend Ava and I had it taken care of.

After settling in our seats, the opening act came on.  A local musician by the name of Stephen Strongman and three other gentlemen provided some good blues themselves.  Strongman plays a mean guitar and got the crowd warmed up for The Man.  Then, it was Buddy’s turn.

The man is a legend.  Played some old, played some new.  During one song he started walking around the entire theater.  Even got up into the balcony!  Unfortunately though he only played for about one hour.  And to top that off, no encore!  Don’t know if I have ever been to a concert where the crowd begged for an encore that was not provided.  Still though, a good night.  Now, I wait for George Thoroughgood-he’s in town in late May.  I’ll be there-care to join me?

Can Pigs Fly? This one did on February 26!

Yes, you read that right.  Thank goodness Cousin Jan had his cell phone with him.  He grabbed a picture of the giant pig that came out flying during the Pink Floyd Experience.  This guy was pretty big and quite maneuverable.  It was remote-controlled so that it could fly all over the theater.  Huge, pink & full of hot air.  For second, I thought Dickhead had taken flight!

Pink Floyd Experience

The long-awaited night finally arrived.  Cousin Jan showed up first and relaxed with a couple of cold ones.  I relaxed too but my tool of relaxation was slightly different.  Somehow, considering it was a Pink Floyd night, I felt my form of relaxation was also much more appropriate!  Not long after Cousin Jan arrived, the ladies appeared.  Sister Dianne brought her lovely girls Nicole & Danielle.  As usual, Dianne also brought a bevy of delicious goodies for yours truly.  I’ll be eating well for the next week or so.

Eventually Dianne & Danielle left.  Cousin Jan loaded us up in the van and we headed off to Hamilton Place where we met Brother Joseph.  Nicole had a treat in store for her.  She fell in love with the Pink Floyd poster I have hanging in my apartment.  Well, I bought one and had it mounted for her.  Brought it along to the concert.  Earlier I had e-mailed the guys in the band and told them about Nicole.  When I asked, they said they would be happy to autograph it for her.  So, during intermission, Joe took Nicole up to the stage and one of the stagehands took it out back where the boys did their thing.  To say the least, Nicole was impressed!

Now, the concert.  Joe, Jan and myself all said the same thing: good, but to hard-core Pink Floyd boys like us, not quite Floyd.  The band is made up of some very good artists but they all seemed to take a little too much artistic liberty with the music.  Still, we did enjoy ourselves.  And the look on Nicole’s face more than made up for things!  The concert itself was long-almost 3 hours with the intermission.  Cousin Jan & I drove Nicole home as soon as the show was over. After all, it was a school night. A night to remember!

Took a few pictures from my apartment.  Check them out!

The tickets have been bought!  There will be four of us.  Along with myself, Brother Joseph & Cousin Jan & Niece Nicole will be attending.  Really looking forward to the show.  I have a surprise for Nicole, the budding the new Pink Floyd fan.  Sure she will love it!

Pink Floyd Then, Pink Floyd Now

Went to see a Pink Floyd cover band with brother Joseph a couple of weeks ago in Niagara Falls.  The band did such a good job, going with Trish to see them again tonight.  Nothing like feeling Comfortably Numb!

Pink Floyd-Excellent!

A very entertaining performance.  The first half of the show was a rendition of "The Wall".  That’s my favorite Floyd album so, no problems there.  After a short break, they performed Animals, another classic.  Only drawback was the venue: Hamilton Convention Center.  Just rows of folding chairs surrounded by huge tables with chairs set around them.  Seemed kind of cheap really.  The music, however, more than made up for it.  Went with brother Joseph & Lady Katherine and Jason, a friend of theirs I’ve met several times.  A great night!
